Man.
What can I say.
Kudos to you Jessie.
K-U-D-O-S.
Haha.Really.I was damn surprised.
Now try and picture yourself sitting in front of the computer.
At almost 2am in the morning.
When you are no different from a zombie out of Resident Evil.
When nothing is on your mind except sleep.
And you are waiting for a good friend's reply on MSN.
.......
Well. She did say she had something funny to tell me after she finished her report.
Me being me I suppose.
I won't miss the chance of a good laugh for the world.
And thus I patiently waited.
And waited.
For almost an hour.
And finally.
I saw the message box I had been waiting all these while.
"OK Neo.I'm finished!"
.......
'Man this better be good'.I thought.
And lucky for me,it wasn't just good.
It was awesome.
Definitely worth staying up.
Now.
I was expecting her to tell me something funny that happened to her in school over in Australia.
But the strange thing was.
Instead of saying anyhting, she simply sent me a file via MSN.
Entitled.
"The Dance Club Dairies Chapter 4 - "You Dance.Dance." (Part 3 - "The Men Don't Get It.Or do they?")"
........
I mean.It being 3am in the morning at that time.
I didn't quite get why she wanted to send me a copy of my last blog diary entry.
Until I realised.
The title wasn't the same as my last entry.
Immediately I didn't feel like sleeping anymore.
Oh man.
She actually went and did it.
Being one of the girls inside the entry.
She rewrote my last blog entry from the girls'perspective.
And to think I was only making a passing remark.
Somemore she dare to tell me she forgot everything that happened.(Liar!)
Haha.
Indeed.
What can I say but.
Thanks Jess.You rock.
Ok.Think I've blabbered long enough.
Wihout further ado.
I am proud to present the first.
And hopefully not the last.
Guest written entry of the Dance Club Dairies.
Enjoy folks.
The Dance Club Dairies
Chapter 4 - "You Dance.I Dance."(Part 2 - "The Men Don’t Get It.Or do they?.")
“WHAT!?”
No way..no abso-freaking-lutely way am I gonna be carried around by a guy!
But the decision had been made, the words said. Slowly, I stood up on my feet and my first reaction was to turn to one of my best girlfriends who also happened to be in the school dance club with me. And there Lindy was, looking right back at me with that pensive smile on her face. Both of us had looked at each other at the same time like it was pre-arranged. Upon seeing the indignant look on my face, she opened her eyes wider and batted her eyelashes in play, waiting for my response.
“Lin... couple dance leh.. not funny..”
Again, that pensive smile. And for what seemed like the hundred and twenty-second time since our first meeting in January, I was struck by how unruffled she could be. After all, it was only about ten seconds ago that Mdm. Tan announced the names of four girls who had been chosen to do couple dances… Germac, Lin, Huizhu..
and me..
Like what the hell??? Eeeeewww seriously the thought of getting carried around by a guy isn’t the most appetizing thought if you know what I mean.
Amusingly enough, I am not exactly what one would call a prude. Among all the girls I hang out with, I am probably the most out-going and gregarious girl to be around. Ask anyone. And in comparison, Lin has always been the cool and refrained one.
Maybe that was the reason for her demeanor.
Excuse me for being such a priss, but again, Eeeeeww!!!! Seriously, I love dance, I love ballet and I love the freedom of expression through the movement of a fluid body. But I just don’t take to the idea of being lifted up in the air resembling bar bells on an Olympic champion’s muscle-bulging arms.
Wait a minute.
What muscle?
Immediately, I turned to the direction of the guys and the thought which had been niggling at the back of my mind all this while materialized into reality in the form of their builds. Hahahahaha.. the guys are all so zero-endowed they would probably drop us the moment they lift us!!!
Drop us...
With a gasp, I turned to Lin again with a look of horror on my face.
“Eh Lin.. you think they can lift us?” I asked with true wonder.
It was only when the words were out of my mouth did I realize how sardonically innocent they were.
But the impact of a few careless words…
Immediately, the both of us burst into peals of laughter as we looked at the direction of the boys again and back at each other. And the ice-queen melted... literally. Lin laughed so hard that tears were rolling down her cheeks like melted snow.
“Jess…” she gasped in between laughter and tears characteristically, “so bad...”
“You can’t blame me when I am worrying for my life right?” I choked back in response with the same strength I use in my Grande Jetes., the hilarity of the situation sucking me in more by the minute.
Exchange done, we looked at each other again through our laughter,
And laughed even harder.
Oh dear… this isn’t good at all. We are laughing at our own predicament!
“Why are you all laughing?” Germac enquired with polite curiosity as she came to stand next to me, Huizhu by her side.
Her question set us off even more and got no response from either of us, since all Lin could do now was continue to cry and laugh, while I could only manage a squeak amid my mirth and some general pointing in the guys’ direction.
However, girls always seem to have a general affinity with one another. At least it was demonstrated in this case since within seconds, Germac and Huizhu got the gist of our amusement, looked at each other then the guys, and started to laugh as well.
And so there we were for the next few seconds, laughing all school-girlish until the instructor Mdm. Tan beckoned for us to congregate with the guys. Of course, that was the call for composure and our laughter immediately dissolved to be overcome by giggles at alternate seconds.
The racket we made certainly got some stares and appeared to have puzzled the dance guys; and as I sneaked a peak at all four of them, I could not help but wonder what they must have been thinking, “what’s up with their excitement?”
Gee if only they knew.
As we made our way there, all four of us grinned at one another several times while shaking our heads in resigned submission coupled with words like:
“Die liao...”
“Yeah.. I am going home to ask my pa buy insurance.”
“hahaha..”
“oh no…”
“What do she’ll make us do?”
“hahaha..”
“I dunno.”
“hahaha.”
In case clarification is needed, the “hahaha(s)” were punctuation marks made by Lin since she was still in recovery mode. As for the rest of us, we were more obsessed over the imminent doom looming before us.
Among all our ruckus and apprehensive speculations in unity with the perplexed looks that the guys were throwing in our direction, only three people were looking purely jovial and pleased. Needless to say, those three in high spirits were our instructor Mdm Tan and her two assistants. In fact, Mdm. Tan was positively beaming when she announced to the boys that she was pairing each of them up with each one of the girls.
“For couple dance!”
I know I had already seen it coming, but having to hear it from the “sen-sei” once again was pretty disconcerting. And so even before the words appeared out of her mouth, I had my eyes cast down in the most uncomfortable manner. The ground looked soft enough for me to dig a hole and bury myself in before putting a R.I.P headstone to mark my demise. And it was pretty obvious the other girls weren’t feeling most at home with that notion either. All four of us were looking everywhere but at the guys.
And where our gazes were before the announcement, there they remained. Until I heard laughter again… only that this time the laughs didn’t sound feminine at all.
Wait a minute… they are coming from the guys! Huh???
Ok something doesn’t make sense. As the guys’ laughter broke us from our reverie, I shifted my attention to them. What could be so ridiculously funny that would make Neo, Andy and Bryan laugh like Christmas had come early? Well at least Thomas isn’t laughing. Like us, he was politely bewildered at the merriment of his counterparts.
Errr.. hello boys.. it’s couple dance.. you know.. getting paired up with one of the girls and having to survive the rest of this year till next while flinging her around?
Well us girls must have missed out on something if the three of them are laughing without preamble. But even Mdm Tan seems pretty astounded at their antics. In fact, she must be starting to think the school is turning into a loony bin, what with her selected female dancers laughing for no apparent reason just a while back, only to be followed by the guys in succession.
Well, I do not know what the hell is going on, but if the girls and I could share a private joke, the guys are entitled to one themselves. After all, this is a free country. Yet, the way they are laughing… it is as if the subject of their exhilaration is inextricably linked to us.
Perhaps they share the same sentiments as us girls, finding it outrageous that they have to lift us up in the air? Again, it does not seem totally on cue and for some reason I can’t put my finger in it.
At this point, Mdm. Tan, having gotten over her initial bafflement, was launching straight into the complexities of couple dance. As the girls and I knew it was going to be of significance to how we would perform, we paid close attention. So did Andy and Bryan who were standing right opposite me. In fact, seeing the look of concentration on their faces, I could not help but feel a sense of pride. At least all eight of us would be professional in our dances.
“Oei Guo Qing! Are you listening to me?” Mdm. Tan suddenly exclaimed.
Ok, maybe I had my thoughts too soon.
Glancing at Neo, I saw that his eyes were somewhat glassy, like he had been floating away in a time bubble. He certainly spaced out back there alright. What the hell is going under that floppy fringed head of his? Hahaha that silly guy... probably must have been thinking this is all a dream.
Seeing that Neo had been jolted back into reality, Mdm .Tan foraged on with her usual, “we are so lucky we have guys in our dance club. They are very important pertaining to us getting the Gold Award. Judges like it when there are guys in the dance troupe… awards you higher points.”
And to spur us on further, she continued with fervour “now we will garner ourselves a higher chance of attaining that Gold through this couple dancing… you are the chosen ones and probably the better dancers. Now you all must work harder than the rest with our partners… I expect more from you..”
Ok I totally understand why Neo spaced out. I think I am halfway reaching la la-land myself now.
“…partner is Hui Zhu. And Jessie you will be Thomas’s partner..”
Oh... so Thomas’ gonna be my partner. Yeah well I dun really mind whoever I end up with. After all, I have always gotten along well with all the guys in the dance club.
As long as he doesn’t drop me.
Having assigned each of us to a partner, Mdm Tan stepped back to have a chat with her assistants. Taking the chance, I gave a momentary look around at the couples. Lin and Andy, Germac with Neo, Hui Zhu and Bryan, and yours sincerely with Thomas.
Well taking into account that we were the selected couples, chances of us spending more time together than with the rest of the dance club are infinite. The rest are seemingly acknowledging this fact too, because within seconds we have started a conversation.
“So what were you guys laughing at just now?” I asked.
At that point which, the conversation died almost immediately. Andy, Bryan and Neo looked at each other for what seemed like a split second before they burst into laughter… again.
“Nothing.. nothing..” Andy shook his head, going rather pink in the face.. “just a private joke.. right neo?” he continued, patting his comrade in the back. Neo grinned and nodded.
Giving them the most incredulous look, I turned my head sideways and surveyed them before grinning. Even if they were to keep that “private joke” to themselves, it is evident that their presence in the dance club will bring the couples a bit of laughter during dance practices. And heck, I am always an advocate for mischief and merry-making.
Glancing at Lin, I saw the look on her face and what we had been going on about just now came back to me instantly. Immediately, I gave her one of my impish smiles and she gave a construed giggle. It set the other girls off and pretty soon, all of us, including the boys, were laughing. And for what we could not specify. Yet, the spirit of our camaraderie had begun. At this moment, I had a sneaking suspicion that doing the couple dance might actually be more interesting than being stuck with the mass dancing. So much for my initial doubts about the whole partnering thing…
In fact, as much as I hate to admit it, I believe I am in for some fun. And… I am sure as hell going to find out from the guys what on earth they are being so secretive about…
Which will be really, really soon.
