What were you doing at 3am last night?
A.Sleeping
B.Sleeping
C.Sleeping
I guess the answer would be D.Sleeping right?
For me.I wasn't.I was cycling along the long endless road beside the Changi Airport.Watching planes take off and land on the airport. And oh my.It was really hell of an experience.Even thought this wasn't my first time. Now you would probably be wondering what the hell I was doing at that place at that time. And ridiculously enough.I'm not sure of it myself.Even until now.
However,if you really wanna know.I guess it all started with a harmless phonecall from my old buddy King Kong Barbie at around 8.30 last night.Apparently.He was going night cyclying around Singapore with a friend. And knowing that I like cycling as well.Decided to ask me to join them. And at first.I was quite tentative about the whole thing.Having had a very bad experience with overnight round Singapore cycling last year.
Yet somehow.Barely 10 mins later.I was on my way to Ang Mo Kio with him to meet up with his friend. And of course.Ang Mo Kio wasn't that far and thus,we reached there in barely half an hour. And having reached there.I was quite relieved to find out I already knew that friend of his who was going with us for the cycling trip.Sicne it would make things less complicated.Anyway.After some discussion. We decided to head down to the East Coast by cycling down to town.Going all thw way to the Esplanade and then making our way to the coast via Marine Parade.
And I gotta admit. The trip to and through town on our bicycles with Mr King Kong Barbie. Was without a doubt one of the most and terrifying and insane experiences of my life.Which I hoped never to have to experience again. We almost met with an accident with coming traffic or each other at least 10 times! My God.And I thought I was crazy enough.Anyway.After dodging traffic and pedestrians all the way from Tangs to Plaze Singapura. We finally arrived at the Esplanade in one piece. And at there. We promptly took a break at a nearby 7-11 before making our way down the Kallang Basin and towards Marine Parade.
And funny enough. Before we knew it.We already reached East Coast Park. And my my.Since I wasn't one that hadn't much of a night life.I was pretty surprised to find that the beach was actually even more crowded than town.Especially at that time of the night. And with a live band performing at the beach bar.The entire place seemed to look so damn happening.(Like I said.I dun hang out much.So pardon me for my swakuness.Haha.)Anyway.Making our way down the beach. We slowly but surely cycled towards the end of the coast. And finally. We came upon this part of the beach whereby there was a sandy path leading into what looked like a little forest. With the only problem being that there was absoltely no streetlights of soure of light whatsoever that we could see in or along the path that could allow us to see the other end.
Meaning that we were not exactly sure where the path would bring us.
Now.Even though I've somewhat ridden aross this path from the other side before a year ago.It was already such a long time ago and therefore.I couldn't really be sure whether the path would still leed us to civilisation or not.Moreover.The last time I came.It was with a big group with experienced regular bikers leading the way.Which was why at this point.Even the initially super enthu King Kong Barbie who wanted to cycle across Singapore no matter what obstacles we had to cross suddenly became hesistant about the whole thing.
To cross?Or to turn back?Obviously.King Kong Barbie opted for us to trun back.Yet strangely enough, his friend felt the exact opposite, and was pretty excited about going into the forest.So.It was up to me to make the decision. To go?Or not to go?If we got into trouble. We would have no one to help us but each other. That was the worrying thought that was going through my mind at that point.Yet at the same time.I was thinking. You don't exactly get to do this everyday.So.Turning back now would mean it would be a long time before I even cycled all the way here again.
Now what.To go?Or not to go?
(To be continued.)
